Even with the best of surgeons, there are no guarantees and poor results can occur from any surgery, even liposuction. Fortunately, in most cases, significant improvement is possible.
Dr. Khalifeh performs revision liposculpture to help men and women who are unhappy with the poor liposuction results they have received from other surgeons. Some patients come to Dr. Khalifeh looking to have indentations, rippling and ridges improved. Others had fat removed disproportionately or have areas of asymmetry and are seeking a more balanced appearance. In some cases, too little fat has been removed while in other cases too much fat has been removed. Dr. Khalifeh can employ a variety of techniques to improve these situations for a more pleasing and balanced result.
Dr. Khalifeh performs revision liposuction procedures in his accredited ambulatory surgery center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. If an overnight stay is required, the procedure can take place at Sibley Memorial Hospital where he holds privileges. Revision liposuction takes anywhere from one to three hours to complete and is performed with either local or general anesthesia. The incisions made are generally small and inconspicuous, leaving little or no visible scarring.
Dr. Khalifeh now performs the majority of his revision lipoplasty cases using the Awake Laser Liposuction technique. Laser lipolysis is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved procedure which uses a laser device to dissolve fat more rapidly compared to traditional liposuction methods. The laser has the added benefit of tightening the surrounding skin while also minimizing bleeding, swelling, bruising and overall recovery times. Laser liposuction may be used on any area of the body though common areas include the abdomen, flanks (love handles), neck, arms, thighs, and buttocks. Dr. Khalifeh offers several other liposuction techniques including tumescent liposuction, P.A.L. liposuction and Vaser® liposuction. He will choose a specific technology and tailor the procedure to address your unique body in order to provide you with the very best results.
The recovery after revision liposuction takes approximately two to four days, after which time most patients are able to return to work. Strenuous exercise and activity should not be resumed until two to three weeks afterward. Some amount of bruising, swelling and discomfort may result. Patients typically must wear a compression garment for a period of time which will help the body to adjust to its new contours while also minimizing swelling. Complications are generally rare but may include bleeding and infection.
