For those who are interested in liposuction today, there is a vast array of choices available. There are choices ranging from the different types of anesthesia which may be used to the different techniques and technologies available. It is also possible today to relocate the removed fat to enhance the breasts, buttocks, face or other area of the body for long-lasting improvement.
Liposuction is an ideal solution for men and women who are unable to tone certain areas of the body through diet and exercise. While just about any area of the body can be treated, there are certain areas that are more commonly treated than others. These tend to include the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, and upper arms. Liposuction can also be performed on facial areas like the chin, cheeks and neck.

Surgery times average one to four hours depending on the technique used and the area being treated. As mentioned previously, there are various options available for anesthesia and these include awake (local) anesthesia, intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia. The incisions made are very small and inconspicuous and typically leave little to no visible scarring.
The recovery after liposuction takes two to four days. Depending on the technique used, patients may be required to wear a compression garment for a period of time afterward. Some degree of bruising, swelling and discomfort may result. Most patients can return to work after two to four days, though it will be two to three weeks before exercise and more strenuous activities may be resumed.
