A breast lift with the addition of implants is a combination procedure perfected by Dr. Marwan Khalifeh, an American Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Khalifeh, with offices in both Chevy Chase and Frederick, Maryland performs the augmentation mastopexy procedure to raise sagging breasts and increase cup size simultaneously.

With age and motherhood, breasts may droop more than a woman feels is aesthetically pleasing. The breasts lose some of the subcutaneous fat which results in a decrease in breast fullness; the mammary glands are replaced with fatty tissue which makes the breasts less firm. The breasts of postmenopausal women may flatten and sag. The nipple may decrease in size. With weight loss, breasts may look deflated. All of these changes may be distressing to a woman who wants a youthful physical appearance.

For women in Washington, D.C. or Bethesda, Maryland who desire shapelier, perkier breasts, there is a solution. Dr. Khalifeh performs the simultaneous breast lift and implant placement using his preferred technique, the lollipop incision. First, a donut shaped piece of skin is removed from around the areola.  Then an incision is made on the underside of the breast to the middle of the breast.  The breast is supported using dissolving stitches under the skin. Using the lollipop incision, the areola can be reshaped. This procedure is used for mild to moderate sagging of the breasts. Other techniques are necessary for larger breasts.

Augmentation mastopexy takes place in Dr. Khalifeh’s accredited surgical center under general or twilight sedation.  If the Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. is more convenient, Dr. Khalifeh holds privileges there as well.  The entire procedure lasts about three hours and an overnight stay is not necessary. During recovery, patients may need to wear a special surgical bra supplied by Dr. Khalifeh for several weeks. Stitches are removed in a week and the patient can return to work at that time. Total recovery takes about two weeks. Potential complications include infection, bleeding, scarring, problems relating to the specific implant, and asymmetry between the two breasts. A certain percentage of women (15%) may need a revision or a touch-up procedure.
